What are the requirements for air transportation of batteries and lithium batteries?

Due to lithium being a hazardous material that is particularly prone to chemical reactions, elongation, and combustion, improper handling and transportation of lithium batteries can lead to combustion and accidents.

Lithium batteries can be simply divided into two categories: lithium metal batteries (such as button batteries) and lithium-ion batteries (such as mobile phone batteries). Metals that are particularly prone to chemical reactions are prone to elongation and combustion, and their characteristics are as follows:

① May release flammable gases when exposed to water or humid air;

② When in a solid state, it can burn on its own when the temperature exceeds its melting point by 180 degrees;

③ When in powder form, it can burn under ambient temperature conditions and can cause serious burns and corrosion.

DG cargo, also known as dangerous goods cargo. DG goods have an important characteristic: they can only be transported for export from Hong Kong, and the mainland cannot carry such goods. Common DG goods include mobile power supplies, lithium batteries, electric vehicles, scooters, balance cars, solar power generation systems, etc. How should these goods be exported by air?

Requirements for safe transportation of lithium battery cargo by air

1. Lithium batteries can be packed without box in box, but each battery needs to be packed with anti-static packaging or foam bags and then put into a paper box; A box of no more than 1 piece, a single piece of no more than 25KG, and the same shipment with accessories can be shipped directly.

2. There is no limit to the model of the battery. The outer box should be clean and sturdy. Ears should not be cut, and yellow adhesive tape should not be used. One side of the battery should be no less than 2/3 sheets of A4 paper.

3. Dry batteries require honeycomb compartment or compressed version packaging, and lithium battery packaging can also be used.

4. Outer box packaging: Do not use yellow tape or cut ears. The cardboard box is sturdy, neat, and clean.

5. MSDS and UN38.3 are required.

6. We accept independently packaged lithium batteries, dry batteries, balance car batteries, mobile power supplies, and other products with a power output of less than 100WH. For products with a power output of more than 100WH, please consult Rocket Logistics customer service.
